Claremont Electoral Districts
Beginning with the 2002 elections, Claremont is in the following districts: (district maps)
- 26th U.S. Congressional District
- 29th California Senate District
- 59th California Assembly District
At present Republicans represent all three of our districts, but Claremont itself supports Democratic candidates.
Voter Information
-
The California Secretary of State provides basic information including voter registration forms and election data.
-
The California Voter Foundation, besides providing the maps mentioned above ("district maps"), offers lots of general information, including on campaign donations.
-
An even broader listing of political information has been provided by the Columbia University Libraries.
-
The League of Women Voters has produced excellent brief guides at the site smartvoter.org. The League's account of the 26th Congressional district has links to maps and demographic data, which show just how gerrymandered it is. The district stretches from La Canada to Wrightwood--in each instance getting places that went 60% for George W. Bush in 2000. It uses the mountains to provide contiguity, but dips down far enough to include San Marino (66.7% for George W. Bush). Our own Claremont (39.9% for Bush) is an exception.
Their account of the 59th Assembly district is similarly informative and makes a nice contrast between our candidate and his incumbent. This district, too, has a Republican edge in registration and a sprawl around the mountains--more eastward, though, extending to Apple Valley.
