THE DEMOCRATIC CLUB OF CLAREMONT
Meeting of the General Membership
Minutes – May 25, 2009 - 7:30 PM, Porter Hall

ATTENDANCE: Zephyr Tate-Mann, chair; approximately 30 present

PROGRAM:

Merrill Ring introduced our panel of war Veterans who shared their stories of induction to the military as well as service in combat.

CHUCK FARRITOR served in WWII in the Merchant Marine.
JIM STRIPLING served in WWII in the Marine Corp.
MERRILL RING was called to action in the Korean War.
RUDY MANN served in the Army in Vietnam
GREG WARNER enlisted in the Army after 9/11 and served in Iraq.

All had stories of induction/enlistment, training or lack thereof and combat situations which were both harrowing and humorous. All downplayed the danger they faced. On this Memorial Day we honor their service and sacrifice as well as that of all the many men and women who also served- and continue to serve - our country.

Zephyr called the business meeting to order. The Treasurer was absent so no report was presented.
