Minutes of the May 25, 2009 General Membership Meeting
THE DEMOCRATIC CLUB OF CLAREMONT Meeting of the General Membership Minutes – May 25, 2009 - 7:30 PM, Porter Hall ATTENDANCE: Zephyr Tate-Mann, chair; approximately 30 present PROGRAM: Merrill Ring introduced our panel of war Veterans who shared their stories of induction to the military as well as service in combat. CHUCK FARRITOR served in WWII in the Merchant Marine. All had stories of induction/enlistment, training or lack thereof and combat situations which were both harrowing and humorous. All downplayed the danger they faced. On this Memorial Day we honor their service and sacrifice as well as that of all the many men and women who also served- and continue to serve - our country. Zephyr called the business meeting to order. The Treasurer was absent so no report was presented. Minutes of the March 30, 2009 General Meeting which have been posted on the website, were approved. Zephyr recognized Nate James, a new member attending for the first time. She also encouraged people to sign up for an Ad Hoc Committee they would like to serve on. MSA The starting time of our general meetings will be changed to 7:00 pm. Zephyr announced that the change in ByLaws to allow expenditures of up to $250 when necessary between meetings and without prior approval by the Exec Committee will be voted on at the next general meeting. Democrats of the Year from the 59th Assembly District are Carol Whitson and Joe Lyons. Carolee discussed plans for the July 4th booth, “float”, and parade. Theme of the parade is “Rockin’ Hoppin’ 4th” and at our booth we will be giving out “Pet Ba-rocks” . Carolee passed out sign-up sheets and requests for more thematic ideas. Zephyr announced the Mixer on June 28th and encouraged everyone to come WITH A GUEST who would like to join our club. Russ Warner announced the opening of his new campaign office in Claremont Village and expressed his desire represents us in the 26th District.
