Minutes of the December 5, 2009 Executive Committee Meeting
THE DEMOCRATIC CLUB OF CLAREMONT Minutes of the Executive Committee Minutes – December 5, 2009 ATTENDANCE: Zephyr Tate-Mann, chair; Lois Thompson, Gwen Carr, Merrill Ring, Gar Byrum, Bob Gerecke and Carolee Monroe. MSA The meeting Agenda with two additions (a schedule for 2010 and a letter from Sustainable Claremont) was approved. Approval of the minutes for November 7 and November 30 were postponed. There was no Treasurer’s Report. Carolee and Lois talked about preparations for the holiday party. Zephyr said she will collect names and donations for Darcel Woods’ 30/30 Plan for getting volunteers and donations for her candidacy. Bob asked for an update of her appeal. There will be neither luncheon nor general membership meeting in December. It was discussed, emphasized and reiterated that the need for a copy of the electronic data base for all E-C members is urgent for many reasons as discussed at the November E-C meeting. The Club re-chartering is due December 31, 2009. A current membership database is necessary to complete that process. The number of representatives we can send to the Pre-Endorsement conference is determined by our membership total. Publicity, including the procedure for distributing emails to the Club’s membership, was discussed. The Publicity Chair is vacant and a volunteer is needed. Articles and announcements that senders want distributed to the “Announce List” are to be sent to Zephyr who will forward them to Ned. Carolee was concerned about the necessity of updating any lists on a regular/monthly basis. Carolee read aloud the letter from Sustainable Claremont acknowledging our membership in the group. We will participate in the Earth Day event in 2010. Blankets are being collected to be given to the homeless. Zephyr has volunteered to take the donated blankets to Los Angeles on Tuesday. MSA (Bob) a deletion of the paragraph in the By-laws relating to a leadership committee. Gwen, as Chair of the By-laws Committee, led a discussion about this possible revision. She will talk with the other members of the committee and will present the revision at our January membership meeting. Notice of the revision will be included in the December issue of the Voorhis Voice. Democrats who are eligible to volunteer were encouraged to apply for a position on the California Redistricting Committee. Dates for 2010 executive committee meetings and general membership meetings, all held at facilities at Pilgrim Place, were determined so that Lois could place them on the Pilgrim Place calendar. The possibility of a different date, other than July 4, for Claremont’s Independence Day celebration was discussed. (See list below) It was suggested that Laura Lo speak with the management of LYL restaurant about including more variety of entrees while reducing the size of the portions for our monthly luncheons. The delay in the dissemination of the Lakoff petition was attributed to the addition of training those persons who will distribute the petition. ANNOUNCEMENTS:
