Minutes of the November 7, 2009 Executive Committee Meeting
THE DEMOCRATIC CLUB OF CLAREMONT
Meeting of the Executive Committee
Minutes – November 7, 2009,  9:30 AM Scrooby Lounge

ATTENDANCE: Zephyr Tate-Mann, chair; Lois Thompson, Merrill Ring, Laura Ditte Lo,  Bob Gerecke, Darcel Woods, Mike Davis, Gwen Carr, Debi Evans, Gar Byrum, Ned Freed, Rudy Mann and Carol Whitson.

MSA  The meeting Agenda was approved.
MSA   The ExComm minutes for the October meeting were approved.  The minutes of the General meeting of October 26, 2009 were approved with some changes about the Death penalty Resolution.

Debi Evans presented the Treasurer’s report:  balances of our accounts are $511.60, $3400.40 and $3,645.24 in the Wells Fargo account.  The agreed-upon $12,600 loan to the Inland Valley Headquarters PAC was paid.  Debi will be paying the shares of our 2008 HQ donations to the other participating clubs since they now all have proper accreditation and ID numbers.  The report was approved.

Carol will include the Dues time period (Calendar year from January 1st) in the Club application.

Congratulations to Mary Caenepeel for her success in the Claremont School Board election!

No luncheon will be held in December.

Debi stated that she will be completing the final Club Roster this week.

Darcell Woods, candidate for AD 59 presented her new fundraising program of 30/30 – every month getting groups of 30 people to donate $30 each.  She passed out fundraising envelopes and some campaign literature.  She is fundraising for both the recall election (if there is one) and the primary.

MSA (Mike, Lois) that our Club participate in a 30/30 fundraiser for November.

The Charter package for our Club is due by 1/1/2010.  Carol is working on that.

Committee Chairs:  Zephyr is encouraging new ideas and more activism.  The Chairs need the phone numbers of their members – which will be available upon completion of the roster.

Merrill reported that the ISSUES COMMITTEE has not decided on new topic since completion of the Death Penalty Resolution and Andy’s report on health Care Reform.

WEBMASTER: Ned is keeping the website updated and may create a password protected ability to access our roster as soon as it is corrected and loaded onto the site.

PUBLICITY:  seeking a chairman

HEADQUARTERS and swag: Rudy and Bob Gerecke are actively fundraising for the HQ fund by creating literature and setting up tables in the Village on Sundays.  Will go to other communities as well.  He wants to have a HQ for the Gov race.

NEWSLETTER:  Laura Ditte Lo needs people to submit articles for the newsletter.  Darcel may be able to help with some photos or graphic design.

FUNDRAISING:  Debi is chair and Laura on committee.  Some ideas are: and activist film festival, T-shirt sales and other swag.

YOUNG DEMOCRATS:  Darcel contacted the club at Claremont colleges and attended their meeting at 10:00pm!   She reported that they had quite a large turnout of 30 people despite the late hour.  Isaac Goldberg is
the contact person for that club.  We need to contact the Claremont High School club who may need some support at the organizing level.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE:  Mike Davis needs names and numbers of the newly signed up members.

PRECINCT AND NEIGHBORHOOD ORGANIZATION:  Bob Gerecke will start his work on that in January as he is currently too involved with the HQ work.  He reports that San Diego has had success with a organizing model that he thinks may help us.

FARMERS MARKET: Carol and Gar continue to show up on Sundays.  Average about 4 registrations per week.  People are more interested during an election build-up than right now, though we distribute Health Care and candidate lit now.

Zephyr encouraged attendance at the City Council meeting on 11/24.  They should be making some changes based on the Police Commission Report.  New guidelines for renting city property.  She also reported that the Police Commission will be losing a member in a few months.  We should encourage application by someone we know.

Meeting was adjourned at 12:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Carol Whitson
Recording Secretary
